LINIS reported about mapping of groups in VK.com at a conference in Barcelona

1-4 July, Spain. The Autonomous University of Barcelona hosted  the 1st European Conference on Social Networks, which was attended by researcher of LINIS Yuri Rykov.

Yuri Rykov presented a report about mapping AIDS-relevant groups in VK.ru, based on the preliminary results of the project laboratory to study the social structure of online communities that are relevant to issues of HIV/AIDS.

The main result of the study meaningful in common with results obtained previously Marc Smith and Lee Rainie in Pew Research Internet Project materials on communication networks in Twitter: network structure and the communicative behavior of participants vary depending on the subject/purpose/genre online community.

The American sociologist Mark Smith was interested in the results of the research and honored individual attention by mentioning the research in the post on his Twitter account and in Facebook.
