ISMW FRUCT-2016
Sergey Koltsov and Olesya Koltsova was invited as experts in the field of topic modeling to conduct workshops at International FRUCT conference ISMW-2016.
International FRUCT conference on Intelligence, Social Media and Web (ISMW) was held from 28 August to 4 September in St.-Petersburg (Russia).
ISMW conference brought together the experts in the field of social media and social network analysis, artificial intelligence, data mining, big data. During the first five days in the format of the Summer School, the participants could participate in various workshops and gain practical skills in the field of data extraction from social media, big data, and get an idea about neural networks, deep-learning etc.
Sergey Koltsov and Olesya Koltsova told the participants of the Summer School about the method of topic modeling: the features of approaches in topic modeling (TM) with a focus on regularization models based on Gibbs-sampling, the problem of stability of the TM and the problem of choosing the number of topics in TM were considered. The participants also had an opportunity to get acquainted with the professional soft "TopicMiner" developed at the laboratory for Internet studies, and practiced in its use in solving practical problems, e.g., the profiling of users of social networks and predicting their attributes.
The conference was held from 2 to 4 September where Olessia Koltsova took part as a keynote speaker. Her report "Topic modeling of user-generated content: opportunities and limitations" was devoted to considering the possibilities and limitations of topic models, especially LDA models.
